In this lesson, you will learn how to compare clothes and use this/that/these/those. You'll read a shopping blog, listen to a fitting room story, and practice giving fashion advice.
This weekend I went shopping with my friend Mia. I wanted to find some new clothing for school. First, I tried on a pair of jeans. They were size 32, but they were too tight in the waist. I asked for a bigger size. Then I tried on a loose shirt. That shirt was too big! I said, "This shirt is too loose." Mia pointed to another shirt and said, "What about that shirt? It looks tighter." I tried it on and it was a better fit.
I compared these two shirts. That blue one was looser than this red one. I chose the red one because it felt more comfortable. Next, I looked at those shoes over by the wall. They were size 10, but my feet are bigger. So I asked for these shoes here, which were a size 11. They fit perfectly! I learned that trying on clothes is really important to find the right fit. Mia and I had a great time, and I left the store with a new shirt and shoes.
"Work with a partner. One person wants help choosing an outfit. The other gives advice. Use comparatives (e.g., tighter, looser, better) and this/that/these/those to talk about the clothes."
👉 Look at the pictures of two outfits (provided by your teacher).
👉 Compare the outfits using comparatives. Example: 'This jacket is tighter than that one.'
👉 Recommend one outfit. Use this/that/these/those. Example: 'I think these shoes look better with that shirt.'
Write 80-100 words about a time you tried on clothes. Describe the fit problems using 'too loose', 'too tight', 'wrong size'. Use comparatives and this/that/these/those.
Record a 45-second talk about a clothing item that didn't fit well. Describe the problem, what you did, and what you learned. Comparatives.
